The introduction of The Fire Safety Order has seen a dramatic increase in prosecutions of companies, employers, employees and fire safety contractors. There is no doubt the government is serious about enforcing this legislation, which after all is designed to save peoples lives. Here are a few examples:
The director and operations manager of a hotel in Hertford has been fined for twice breaching a prohibition notice.
The managing agent of a block of flats in London has been fined £100,000 and ordered to pay almost £13,000 in costs
The owner of an Indian restaurant in Gloucester has pleaded guilty to ten breaches of the Fire Safety Order (2005) and been ordered to pay large fines.
Tesco plc has been fined £95,000 and ordered to pay £24,321 in costs after pleading guilty to serious breaches of The Fire Safety Order 2005.
A former pub landlord has been ordered to pay £16,015 in fines and costs for serious breaches of fire safety law.
