Dairy Crest

Dairy Crest

Background

Fenstanton in Cambridgeshire is home to one of Dairy Crest's two regional dairies. It serves household customers in defined geographical areas in London and East Anglia, as well as supplying national retailers, independent dairymen, convenience stores, schools, military bases, prisons and hospitals. Since Dairy Crest acquired the dairy in 1989, it has been significantly expanded, now employing 290 people. Accordingly, the fire alarm system had been extended several times, and over time and as a result of environmental conditions, had become unreliable, developing faults and water ingress.

The Challenge

Dairy Crest needed to replace the existing fire alarm in the shortest possible time and provide a system that operates across the whole site – encompassing six main buildings. In some areas covered by the new system, the environment included continual wash downs by hoses. To add to the complexity, the existing system needed to remain operational whilst the new one was being installed.

The Solution

Churches Fire designed and installed a radio fire detection system for the site, incorporating six EDA Millennium M100 panels networked with eleven booster panels across the site. The detection element of the system included five aspirated systems and over 400 devices.

The entire system was installed and commissioned in less than six weeks from start to finish, and is also maintained by Chuches Fire.
