Kenneth Davis, I.Eng, MIFireE

With Churchesfire since 2006, Ken is an experienced Fire Engineer and Fire Risk Assessor with extensive knowledge of contemporary fire engineering and design methodology including fire and escape modelling and smoke control. He has proven technical, administrative, IT and organisational abilities and is good at communicating with other people.

He is familiar with all relevant design codes and BFRL fire modelling software, and used to working with project management at the highest level. Ken is a regular member of the FIA Fire Risk Assessors Council that meets throughout the year in London.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out Fire Risk Assessments on all types of building purpose groups including large, high risk industrial sites.
  • Liaising with architects and designers, ensuring designs are compliant with Building Regulations and fire safety legislation and where appropriate suggesting alternative solutions before they are submitted for approvals. 
  • Regularly identifying where savings can be made without compromising fire safety.
  • Carrying out Fire Safety Training.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service: Fire Safety Officer – Team Leader

  • As Team Leader was responsible for fire safety enforcement and design in a mainly urban environment.
  • Managed a team of Fire Safety Enforcement Officers.
  • Liaised with Local Authority Building Control and approved inspectors on design work.
  • Lead officer on major fire engineering projects.
  • Fire Safety Training Officer.
  • Worked as a specialist preparing legal and technical procedures in preparation for the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, largely at a national level including the preparation of technical design guidance for HM Government.

Examples of Major Projects

Involvement with the design and construction of a large city centre development, including a modern, fully fire-engineered retail development with over 100 units, two large anchor stores, two atria and car parking arranged over seven levels.

Involvement with high value industrial site, involving redevelopment of a nine hectare site including construction of two large three-storey factories, a high-bay warehouse, two four- storey research buildings and renovation of a number of existing buildings. The project incorporated fire sprinklers, smoke control systems, pressurised staircases, dry rising mains and complex fire and rescue service access requirements.

Mr Kenneth Davis registered as Fire Risk Assessors (Life Safety Stream) with the Institution of Fire Engineers.
